SAN DIEGO (KGTV) – The Sports Arena, now called the Pechanga Field, has actually been designated a historic resource. This comes amid strategies to redevelop the area.
The City of San DiegoHistorical Resources Board enacted support of the historical classification in a meeting on Thursday.
City personnel recommended it after a report by Midway Climbing designers.
The Midway Rising job plans to redevelop the site to consist of apartment or condos, restaurants, and an all-new 16,000-seat field.
The Sports Arena was constructed in 1966. City code needs a testimonial of 45-year-old or older properties when making an application for an advancement license.

The City stated the classification does not stop the Sports Arena from being redeveloped or knocked down.
It merely activates a process to evaluate whether any practical options exist that can minimize influences to the historic source, the City said in a statement.
Hahn stated the field means a whole lot to San Diegans and hopes it will certainly be protected.
